Frequently Asked Questions
What rubber sheet is best for outdoor use?
EPDM rubber sheet is the best choice for outdoor applications. It offers excellent resistance to UV light, ozone, weathering, and temperature extremes (-40°C to +120°C). EPDM won't crack, harden, or degrade when exposed to sunlight and rain, making it ideal for outdoor gaskets, seals, roofing membranes, and weather stripping.
Which rubber sheet resists oil and fuel?
Nitrile (NBR) rubber sheet provides the best oil and fuel resistance. It's specifically formulated to withstand petroleum products, hydraulic fluids, and mineral oils without swelling or degrading. For automotive, aerospace, and industrial applications involving oil contact, Nitrile is the go-to material. Neoprene also offers good (but not excellent) oil resistance as a more economical alternative.
What is food-grade rubber sheet?
Food-grade silicone rubber sheet is FDA/EU approved for direct food contact. It's non-toxic, odourless, and can withstand repeated sterilisation. Used in food processing equipment, conveyor systems, and kitchen applications. We also stock food-grade natural rubber and food-grade EPDM for specific applications. All food-grade products are clearly marked in our listings.
How do I cut rubber sheet?
Rubber sheet can be cut using:
- Stanley knife: Best for thin sheet (up to 3mm). Score multiple times and snap.
- Heavy-duty scissors: Up to 2mm thickness.
- Bandsaw: For thick sheet and complex shapes.
- Water jet: For precision engineering cuts.
Tip: Use a metal straight edge as a guide. For circles, use a compass cutter or hole punch. We offer a free cutting service if you need precision cuts – just provide dimensions.
What thickness rubber sheet do I need for gaskets?
Gasket thickness depends on flange condition and application:
- 1-2mm: Precision machined flanges, low pressure
- 3mm: Standard industrial gaskets (most common)
- 5-6mm: Rough flanges, higher compression needed
General rule: use the thinnest gasket that seals effectively. Thicker isn't always better – excessive compression can cause blowout under pressure.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between EPDM, Neoprene and Nitrile rubber sheet?
EPDM rubber sheet excels in outdoor/weather resistance and UV stability. Neoprene is ideal for moderate oil resistance with good temperature range (-40°C to +120°C). Nitrile (NBR) rubber sheet offers the best resistance to oils, fuels and hydrocarbons, making it the first choice for engineering and automotive applications.
Can rubber sheet be cut to custom sizes?
Yes, all our rubber sheet is available cut to your exact size. Simply enter your required dimensions when ordering. We supply rubber sheet from 1mm to 25mm thickness in widths up to 1.4m and can supply full rolls or custom lengths.
What temperature range can rubber sheet withstand?
Temperature resistance varies by compound. Standard natural rubber: -40°C to +70°C. EPDM: -40°C to +120°C. Neoprene: -40°C to +120°C. Nitrile: -30°C to +100°C. Silicone rubber sheet can handle extreme temperatures from -60°C to +200°C.
What thickness rubber sheet do I need for gasketing or sealing?
For gaskets and sealing applications, 1.5-3mm rubber sheet is typically used. For vibration dampening and anti-vibration mounts, 6-12mm is common. For heavy plant machinery and noise insulation, 10-25mm sheet provides optimal performance.
Is rubber sheet food safe or suitable for drinking water contact?
Food-safe and potable water grades are available in our range. Natural rubber and standard SBR are not food safe. For food contact applications, choose our FDA-approved Silicone sheet or WRAS-approved EPDM sheet. Please contact our team to confirm suitability for your specific application.
