How to Repair Damaged Rubber Flooring

Many rubber flooring issues can be repaired rather than replaced. This guide covers common problems and their solutions.

Repair by Problem Type

Cuts and Tears

Small cuts (<5cm):

  1. Clean the damaged area thoroughly
  2. Apply rubber-to-rubber adhesive to both edges
  3. Press together firmly
  4. Weight down for 24 hours
  5. Trim any excess adhesive

Large tears:

  • Cut out damaged section (straight edges)
  • Replace with matching rubber patch
  • Adhere patch with full-spread adhesive

Lifting Edges

  1. Clean underneath lifted section
  2. Apply contact adhesive to both surfaces
  3. Wait until tacky (per adhesive instructions)
  4. Press down firmly
  5. Roll with J-roller
  6. Weight overnight

Prevention: Install edge ramps or transition strips

Seam Separation

For adhesive-joined seams:

  1. Clean seam edges
  2. Apply seam adhesive (cold weld)
  3. Press edges together
  4. Use seam roller
  5. Allow to cure fully

For welded seams: Professional heat welding required

Permanent Dents

Unfortunately, severe compression damage cannot be fully repaired:

  • Minor dents: May recover partially over time without load
  • Severe dents: Section replacement needed
  • Prevention: Use equipment pads under heavy static loads

Surface Gouges

  1. Clean gouge thoroughly
  2. Fill with rubber repair compound or flexible filler
  3. Smooth to level with surface
  4. Allow to cure
  5. Sand lightly if needed

Burn Marks

Burns damage rubber structure—repair depends on depth:
